Twig Beetle

Twig beetle bore into pinon pines, conifers and black walnut trees and create colonies. They are a natural pruning agent but can also be the carrier of destructive fungi.

The twig beetle is 1 to 3 mm long with a black or shiny head. To keep it away, pruning dead branches and promoting tree health will help fend off infestations.

Half of New Beetle Kill in Larimer County

Larimer County took the brunt of the bark beetle spread in 2009, with the area seeing dead or dying lodgepole and ponderosa pines nearly doubling. That was the conclusion of an annual aerial survey of Colorado and Wyoming forests conducted by the Colorado State Forest Service and the U.S. Forest Service, the results of which were announced Friday.
