Larimer County took the brunt of the bark beetle spread in 2009, with the area seeing dead or dying lodgepole and ponderosa pines nearly doubling.

That was the conclusion of an annual aerial survey of Colorado and Wyoming forests conducted by the Colorado State Forest Service and the U.S. Forest Service. The results were announced Friday.
