Take Advantage of an Apprenticeship Program

ArborScape provides more than just tree care services for Denver’s urban canopy. Our team of arborists care about the community and is always looking for ways to contribute. One way we’re able to do that is through our apprenticeship program.

We love learning here at ArborScape. Our arborists are certified and work hard to maintain their credentials in the industry and keep up with the latest trends as the field evolves and advances with new technology and information.

Because our arborists care about tree health so much, we hope to spread knowledge and education about tree care in whatever way we can. And we get to implement that mission through our arborist apprenticeship program.

While we may be biased about arboriculture, we know that all tradework is important for our communities, and we’re incredibly appreciative of the tradeworkers who put in the time and effort to educate themselves about their industry and work hard for others to enjoy the benefits.

As college degrees become more expensive, many high school students and graduates have expressed their hesitancy and caution in obtaining higher education in that traditional sense.

Now that skilled trades have become higher in demand for employees, apprenticeship programs have proven to be a great avenue into industries many haven’t considered before.

Apprenticeships can be a great way for businesses and potential employees to come together and figure out the best way to educate, train, and retain for growth and stability on both ends.

Trade work as a whole is vital for our economy and way of life, and while it’s a great alternative to finding a fulfilling career outside the norms of formal education, there’s still a lot of learning and other forms of training to succeed in these roles.

The arborist trade plays an important role in our community, ecosystem, and Mother Nature. Without maintaining our urban canopy, we wouldn’t reap the benefits that trees provide- such as cooling cities, providing shade, acting as road barriers, and filtering our air.

An arborist is a tree doctor certified in the art and science of managing and maintaining the health and safety of trees, shrubs, and other woody plants.

It’s more than just pruning a tree- it’s knowing which cuts to make and why. More than that, arborists also practice pest and disease management in trees and can provide options for treatment plans to keep your trees safe and healthy.

Learning this trade offers a variety of pathways in the industry. ArborScape deals primarily with tree trimming, removals, and overall tree care for residential and commercial properties, but there are also options to become a forester, work in fire prevention, or even timber harvesting.

With different certifications or degrees, this trade can also lead to ecologist or forest technician roles.

ArborScape’s Arborist Apprenticeship Program

At ArborScape, our apprenticeship program allows you to dive into the arborist trade while getting paid. Our program is a hybrid system that helps train the next generation in an ever-growing industry.

We’ll have you start on a crew to learn under another journeyman arborist for about six months. Once you’ve gotten the basics down and have (hopefully) learned some new skills, we’ll see how you feel about committing to a three-year program in this industry. If it’s something you feel ready for, we’ll get you signed up for the program.

Our apprenticeship program is registered with Colorado’s DOJ and has partnered with multiple nonprofits to branch out and reach people who are interested in working in the outdoors, or even just learning new transferable skills.

The apprenticeship program takes roughly three years to complete, with nearly 6,000 hours of OTJ training and an additional 440 hours of classroom learning to demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of tree biology and safe equipment practices.

Our arborists have learned the art of tree climbing, understand basic utility management, and have applied sciences to assess risk management on job sites.

If you’re interested in learning more about becoming an arborist, check out our website to learn more about our apprenticeship program, or fill out a form with some questions, and we’ll get back to you asap!
